From the Curator's Desk: My Favorite Brands

Dear my frilly friends,

    Do you have a favorite brand? It might be an easy question for some lolitas. For me it is a difficult one. I love too many brands for different reasons. And I love different brands across many substyles. So to pick just one seems damn near impossible. I do not have the fortune to fit easily into most Japanese brands. 

    It would be so easy to pick one brand that caters to my style and body type, but alas there are none so perfect. What I can at least do is pick a favorite from each substyle. But of course I could not just pick one brand so I added some honorable mentions, for brands I love dearly for one reason or another.

My favorite gothic brand: Atelier Pierrot

What I love about them: plus-size friendly, caters to a more mature gothic style, easily accessible without a shopping service, carries many different brands (not just their own proprietary brand), weekly livestreams in english, their new website automatically converts to USD and auto-translates to English, great customer service, they got Connie!

Honorable mentions: Moi-même-Moitié, Antique BeasT, Cruel Arcadia

My favorite sweet brand: Baby, the Stars Shine Bright

What I love about them: lots of bear print releases, their overall aesthetic is very soft and doll-like vs Angelic Pretty is seems more "poppy" in their color schemes/busy designs, plus-size friendly (depending on the item), has an English website that's easy to order from

Honorable mentions: Axes Femme Kawaii, Metamorphoses temps de fille

My favorite classic brand: Innocent World

What I love about them: very girlish vintage-inspired pieces (aka "swassic"), plus-size friendly (depending on the item), aesthetic reminds me of children's novels, nostalgic & whimsical vibes, they got some of the best brand legwear you can find
